Halo Challenges
Even though I don't think any of us have played a game of Halo in months (maybe Adeclipse has) we still get challenges every once and a while.
Like this:
Hello,
I am Pastemaster, leader of the Winged Warriors. A while ago you challenged us to a match and unfortunately nothing ever was set up. So I wanted to know if you are still interested in setting up a Halo 3 match. Please let me know. Thanks
Pastemaster
or this:
Hello I am OcR Hurricane from Outcast Reborn.
I would like to know if your clan would like to do a friendly match on Halo 3
6 v 6
best of 5; you choose 3 we choose 2
I can either be contacted via this email or on our forums
I look forward to hearing back from you guys!
And finally this:
I challange your clan to a batlle.
I would tell you a time but me fellow knights are kind of on Xbox Live at irregular times but i will se what I can do.
I will rally my members and you should do the same.
My Order is the Knights of the Crimson Sword. My gamertag is PitifulKnight
While I know we all are rusty (and even if we weren't we aren't that good) I would be interested in maybe playing some of these guys for a laugh. What do you guys think?

Halo MMOFPS?
So I don't know if anyone has been paying attention to any of the stuff at E3 or anything on Bungie's website. But Bungie hinted at the fact that they were going to announce something pretty big the other day, but about 12 hours before they were going to announce it they had a note on their front page about how the publisher told them they couldn't. People were pissed, some thought it was all part of the reveal but they assured us it was not.
Turns out the publisher was Microsoft and essentially that since E3 was so lame they didn't want to reveal more stuff than they had to. They have no revealed that it is some sort of Halo game but not much more information than that. Speculation has been that it might be a game without Master Chief, it is also not Halo Wars, or the Peter Jackson project. Some think it might be a grittier Halo in a more COD4 style while a few others think it might be the first real MMOFPS.
Here is a video from a few years ago with a dude from Msoft working on an MMOFPS. Essentially you would be playing halo with thousands of other people. It sounds like it could be really cool.

Kinda Funny Halo/CSI Video
Besides the fact that they call a plasma grenade a frag grenade I thought it was mildly entertaining.

Welcome Back
Hey everybody, it's Monday morning and I am ridiculously tired. After going to Cub Foods at like 5 in the morning on Friday I never recovered any sleep all weekend. I had a great time Friday night and I wish there could have been more KofCers in attendance. But seeing Eternal and SB was a good start.
Also, my sister, who has not bowled more than 5 times in her life, bowled a 189 on Saturday night, in the 7th frame she had this as her score: X / X X X X X. I was impressed. Dammer, Tilla, just out of curiosity, what's your average score?
It's been over 33 days since I last saw my beautiful black xbox. And according to xbox.com, it's still at the service center, which means even if it left today it won't be at my apartment until after I move. So, looks like I will not be getting my xbox back. Bummer. Luckily my PSP and God of War is keeping me occupied for the time being.
Since I am so tired, I am not going to post too much. However I am interested in what everyone did for their Easter weekend, so please share with the rest of us in the comments section. Here are a couple links to get you through the day.
If you want to get your TV, Xbox, PS3, cell phone or any other device colored, this site seems to do a pretty good job of it. You can buy the system directly from them, or send in your old one. Play around with the different color schemes for the Xbox, it's pretty cool.
COD4 is no a MLG game and their pro ladder starts March 31st. Once I get my new internet I would be down to give it a whirl. If you ever wondered how the MLG online ladders work, here is the LONG rule list for the COD4 ladder.
Another Top 10 list from MLG, I haven't seen it yet since my internet is on the fritz, but I imagine it's gotta be pretty good. I guess this one isn't the high pros, it's made up of user submitted footage.
As far as Halo is concerned, the third map in the legendary pack will be revealed tomorrow and the actual maps go on sale on April 15th. Also the Heroic pack will become free late tonight (like 4am CT). That should be good as more people will have them now and we can start playing them on Team Slayer. [Read the latest Bungie update here.]
That's about it. I am bummed I didn't get to see some of you guys this weekend, we gotta plan something soon.

Video Game Tattoos and New Halo Map
IMPORTANT: At 5pm CST, I will be migrating the website to kofcclan.blogspot.com. Update your bookmarks, homepage, business cards and anything else that has the old information on it.
There is a kind of a lot of news today so try to stay with me.
Video Game Tattoo:
Yesterday's post about the guy with the Halo Legendary tattoo got me thinking. What if he had received a tattoo with the images of his other favorite games. Would they be as cool if it were some other video game character instead of the Elite head and crossed swords?
While this tattoo isn't as cool as these ones, I did get a chance to talk to the man that got legendary tat and he agreed to answer some of my questions. He told me that he first considered getting a couple different games tattooed on his back and sometimes regrets his final decision. He was always a big fan of Pong so he considered the iconic Pong paddle and square ball.
He decided that a large vertical black line might not be recognizable as a video game character and could show through his white shirts. Thus making it look like he was always wearing a jersey numbered, 1.
He also considered his favorite game of all time. It's a rather new game but the programming is top notch, he has been playing it pretty much non-stop since the midnight release party.
That's right, he is a HUGE Dr. Daisy Pet Vet fan.
New Halo Map: Avalanche
They released the details and images of the second new map in the Legendary Map Pack. It will be released on April 15th (tax day! yay!) for 800 MS points. This is the same prices as the Heroic pack but let's hope it's better.
Like I predicted the second map, which was named Cottonball is now named Avalanche and is a remake of Sidewinder. They say it's more of a tribute to Sidewinder and not so much a remake and I think it's neither. It has a similar curved shape but that seems to be where the greatness that comes from the Halo 1 map ends. They have gotten rid of the tunnel system that connected the two bases, and there are no portals nor ladders.
According to Bungie they want to focus the fighting out into the open with vehicles. I never really used vehicles in Sidewinder, well, except for using the turret in the hog to slip through the gate where the overshield and cloak was. I really don't want to be forced to do anything in a map, that seems to take a way the creativity that Halo 1 was known for.
Anyway check out Bungie's write up of the new map and let me know what you guys think. I think Josey knows what I am talking about when I say I am not getting my hopes up.
OMGGH4DS:
Guitar Hero: On Tour for the DS was revealed today. Check out the link. There is a peripheral for the DS, I don't think you will be disappointed.
Dammer gets 50 bucks:
Dammer you did buy the HDDVD player for the Xbox didn't you? Did you get it at Best Buy or Circuit City? Well if you did, and if any other Knight did, you can get a $50 dollar giftcard from the retail stores if you can prove you bought it before the Microsoft called the format "dead".
COD4 Update for PS3 (No one cares? Oh okay.)
The COD4 update just came out for the PS3 version of the game, so I can finally see the improvements you guys have been playing with for a while.

New Clan Name & Image
EDIT: This post has to do with the our clan when we were the Knights of Columbus. We have since changed our name to the Knights of Cydonia.
So I think what are our good friend, Joseph A. Niglio is doing is ignoring us and our reply, so he can do some sort of bullshit lawyer stuff after 7 days. The good thing is we got 3 more days, before he makes up some ridiculous amount of money he is charging in lawyer fee's and sends us the bill. While I feel we really should call his bluff, the idea of possibly having a new title image and name is getting more appealing to me with every thought.
Last night I made a couple of title images for the blog. At first I was thinking about coming up with a bunch of names and making a image for each. The first name I came up with Operation Stein Grab and here is the title image. I like the idea of having it something like but I think we should try to stay closer to our original roots, and our love for things 'Knights.'
I think a lot have people have really liked the name Knights of Cydonia, I like it too, especially after watching the music video. I threw together this three title images (listed below) two of them won't really make since unless you have seen the music video.
Title Image (Just title)
Title Image (Master Chief)
Title Image (Hawk)
Obviously none of this is set in stone. Not the name nor the title images, but I figured it would a somewhat fun Monday morning post for discussion.
On another note, Bungie said they would be releasing more details on the legendary map pack Tuesday. In addition Team Hardcore is being switched to full MLG settings. I haven't played MLG setting very often but once I get my Xbox back (never) I would like to give them a try.
A couple of things Daymonster wants the KofC (Columbus now, possible Cydonia in the future) to know:
I will be in Minnesota this weekend, and my family wants to know what my plans are. I would like to see some of you guys this weekend, but I know with the holiday festivities that some of you partake in that might be difficult. Can anybody do anything Friday night or Saturday night? I am leaning towards Friday, but I won't get in from the airport unlike like 8:30pm or so.
Also, since I am moving to a new apartment and keeping my ridiculously expensive internets, in theory (emphasis on theory) I should have faster tubes of internet at my new place. That mean we could play Halo without me clogging up the works. I won't know until April or whenever I get my Xbox back (whichever comes second).
Squatting Bear, I don't know when you get from Mexico, but when you do go to Target, two for one BluRay discs. BR for $15 is a pretty nifty deal.
I doubt I could actually get hired for this, but I feel like if I tried real hard (and bought a PSP, which I almost did yesterday) I could do alright.
That's about it, I want EVERYONE to comment on the name they want/image even if it's completely different than what I posted. Also let me know your Easter weekend plans and something the KofC members don't know about you. That's your homework for the day.

Top 10 Halo Kills
It feels good to be back. After 3 days of observing intercity kids at a public school, I can now post and read the blog during the day. And in other good news I just saw that my Xbox finally made it to the service department. Hopefully I'll have it back within 2-3 weeks. Also, I am posting this video.
This is not that new but it's still pretty cool to see some of these kills.

-Chapter 01-
1445 HOURS, FEDUARY 6, 2526 (MILITARY CALENDAR)
Aboard UNSC Frigate Thunderous Silence, Rrestricted space, planet reach
John (Spartan-117) woke up, groggy, confused, finding himself slouched over a school table desk, the same kind of desks he remembered back during his lectures with Dejà during his childhood with the other Spartans, in fact, the room around him seemed almost too reminiscent to the classroom. The only difference was that the classroom had a round, staircase-like leveling with the chairs grouped by 9 or 10.
He looked around, noticing that he was not alone. He noticed to the right of him William (Spartan-043), to the left Dante (Spartan-088) getting up. He looked around to see that all 31 other Spartans were all here, groggy, and just as confused and curious as he was.
John noticed a man standing behind the digital blackboard in front, waiting with hands folded behind him, dawned in Class-A UNSC army uniform. The man stood at around 6ft, slim, John noticed the rank of Colonel on the uniform.
To his left and right were two ODST troopers dawned in full body suit and helmet, both carrying fully loaded MA5B assault rifles.
"Good morning Spartans" the man said in a calm cool voice, "I hope you all slept well during Cryostasis."
John wondered who this man was; he had never seen him before during training, during his recovery of his enhancements on the ONI medical station.
"My men gave you all a double dose of the wake-up serum so you should be fully aware by now. We cannot have you dozing off now can we."
The Colonel turned and began writing on the touch screen blackboard using a thin chalk-like instrument.
"My name is Colonel James Altidore" he said after finishing underlining his name. He then fumbled with the chalk piece in his hand.
"Obviously you are all Spartans" he said looking around the room "And as of this moment I will be replacing your CO Mendez as head of the Spartan Program."
There was an uneasy silence around the room.
"Now I understand that ever since you're training on Reach has been a series of games" a sinister smile came across Altidore's face "Well I have a new game for you. As head chairmen of Section III, your new mission…"
John, Kelly, every Spartan in the room could not believe what he said next.
"…Is to kill each other."
There was a large gasp in the room fallowed by an even more uneasy silence. They began to whisper to one another, thinking the colonel was crazy.
John stood up, as leader of the Spartans and just as confused as his company. "Sir with respect could you repeat that?" he hesitated ending his sentence with 'sir'; He didn't think Altidore deserved such a title.
"Certainly" Altidore said, deciding to walk around to view all their shocked little faces. "What I said, I meant. The rules to my little game are simple. 32 Spartans are sent down to a remote area where they are to kill each other within a certain amount of time which ever way you wish until one remains." He cleared his throat before finishing "and the last one standing will be rewarded significantly with a lifelong pension, enough money to own your own fucking colony in the ass-end of space." He shrugged "Hell, not even Mendez, or even that egghead Halsey could afford such a prize."
Randall (Spartan-118) stood up, trying his best to restrain himself from lunging into the Colonel; he was only two desks away from the blackboard. "I bet CO Mendez would have something to say about this!" Randall Yelled. John knew he would, he knew they all would have got up and killed all of them if he knew how many he was facing, or how much firepower he was against.
"Stand down Spartan!" John called to him.
Altidore waited for him to sit down, cleared his throat "No, actually he brings me to another topic." He signaled over to the side door, which slid open.
Three ODST officers came out carrying a black body bag. John had seen what a full body bag looked like, back during the medical station. He could only guess at what was inside.
He froze, putting his thoughts in order; it didn't take long before guessing who was inside. He knew by now everyone figured what was inside, they just couldn't believe it.
"Come on, no one can kill the chief" He recalled saying back when he was a child back during a training exercise. After a while he knew that no one was spared by death, but he never thought he would end like this.
The body bag was thrown onto the teachers table, zipper facing up. The three ODST stood at attention, assault rifles in hand.
Altidore slowly unzipped the bag.
Johns braced himself, expecting the worst.
He froze, unable to react at what he saw, all the Spartans gasped and tried to cope, but john just sat back frozen.
The Spartans could not believe what they saw.
Mendez lay inside the body bag; his left eye hung out from his socket, shot above the right eye with a Battle Rifle.
"He was a tough nut to crack, believe me" He merely glanced at the body, shrugged and continued his rant "I tried negotiating and negotiating with him for hours and hours but after a while" he chuckled "I believe he…saw the light. No pun intended."
Collecting his thoughts, John stood up, "What did you do to Halsey!" John asked.
Altidore looked back at John. "Not addressing me as 'sir', or 'permission to speak freely sir'" he waved his finger at him "Not very wise, you could be court-"
"Don't give me that shit Colonel Altidore, once you killed Mendez you have no authority lecturing me about ethics and military standards." John snarled.
Altidore smiled "Good point." He walked over to John face-to-face with an ODST in the distance aiming his sights to John's forehead.
"You see this," the colonel barked, pointing at the insignia on his uniform "This rank makes you my bitch; this makes all the Spartans, even Mendez over there, Halsey, everyone in section III, all of you my bitches. You will know far well to respect your superiors."
They looked eye to eye now; John did not back down, he stood.
"This goes far beyond respecting superiors Colonel." John paused more of holding back the urge of ripping out his lungs right there "Now Dr. Halsey…What did you do to her… sir?"
Altidore walked away, shrugged, "I say that Damned Halsey can be a real pain in the ass sometimes, she was just as stubborn as Mendez was. But unlike Mendez I didn't have the heart to shoot her." He tilted his head back, almost lost in thought. He began to drum his fingers on the back of Mendez's head.
"No, no, I had much more special plans for her." He chuckled, he began to reminisce on the negotiation with Halsey, How she lied there naked handcuffed, bruised, his dirty sock in her mouth as he laid on top of her, enjoying her muffled screaming with his sock shoved in her mouth.
"You son of a bitch" John muttered under his breath.
"I would be well advised to mind your comments one-one-seven. They could cost you your life before the game begins." Altidore cracked a smile, hoping that John would test him.
"This is a load of horseshit!" One of the Spartans yelled. The class agreed and protested against Altidore.
"What the hell do you take us for?" Randall stood up, walked over to the stairs. The room became silent, all eyes and sights were on him.
"Someone's going to notice. Mendez, Section III, the UNSC, this is all completely against every military regulation in the book. You might as well throw all standards and practices out the window."
"Get to the fucking point one-one-eight" Altidore snarled.
"First off, how the hell are you going to have us kill one another, if anything you should be worried that were going to rush right back here and rip you're fucking balls off." Randall finished, the Spartans cheered him on, agreeing with what he said.
"Second off, when the UNSC finds out about this, especially the killing CO Mendez and Halsey, the next orders you'll give out will be the choice of your last meal!"
The Spartans cheered on, about to swarm down on Altidore and his squad.
The Colonel pulled out his M6C magnum and fired upward, silencing the classroom.
"You know that's a good question" Altidore pointed to him, he seemed more cheerful to reply than usual, showing a toothy smile.
He turned to the teachers table "Araquiel!" he ordered.
A holographic flame shot from the AI port on the right side of the table. John and the others watched as a demonic elongated skull generated within the flame, looking over to Altidore as soon as its horns were complete.
Altidore nearly drooled as he glanced over to Randall, standing in confusion.
"One-one-eight" Altidore said.
The AI replied in a raspy, demonic multiple-voice "Executing order 66" fallowed by a laugh.
"And what the fuck do-" but before he could, Randall felt a strong, throbbing pain in his head. He tried to shake it off but the throbbing pain was unbearable.
Randall cried in pain, holding his head. Something the Spartans did not do.
John and the others around him tried to help. John walked over to him, tilted his head and looked into his eyes. John ignored Randall's screams.
"What's your status Spartan?" He asked.
Randall's eyes were bloodshot; he began to claw at his throat. "Sir…I…I…can't breathe" he tried to say.
John and the rest stepped back, Randall's face turned red from the lack of oxygen, and his eyes were about to pop out of his face. He tried to scream before the unthinkable happened.
Randall's head from the jaw up exploded in a gory mess. Chunks of skin, brain, and bone flew all around the room.
John froze there as the group of Spartans erupted in uproar and fear as they jumped out of there seats heading back.
Sheila (Spartan-119) having finally reached her breaking point, lunged at one of the ODST troopers and grabbed his rifle. He struggled with her before the she pried the rifle away from him.
Just as she was about to aim at the Colonel, two troopers opened fire on her. She fell in a dance of death as the bullets poked into her chest and through her head. Her blood splattered all over the wall.
"Everyone settle down" he said, but the commotion muffled his orders.
The ODST fired over the Spartan's heads, trying to pacify them without killing them.
"Settle down Spartans!" John called out. He kept repeating until the Spartans slowly settled down and kept silent.
It was clear that John was scared, even if he would never show it. He wiped off the chunk of flesh off his face before speaking.
"Colonel" He gulped, continued, "What the hell just happened to Randall, Why are two of my Spartans dead?"
"I'm glad you asked," The colonel pointed over to John, cracking a smile.
"During your surgeries back on the medical station, it was subjected by the head of ONI that a special device be placed inside all of the Spartans. We called it 'Project-Guadalcanal' a failsafe in case you become too powerful for section III to control, or in case, you leak the Spartan Project to the public. It is an explosive device as thin as apiece of paper, and about the size of a bookmark fused to the back of your skulls close to the brain. It as you may have noticed has the explosive capability enough to incinerate your entire head."
He paced around the room, confident as he hid behind the cover of his armored guards.
"You try to escape, you die, you don't fallow the rules I give you, you die, if for some reason you manage to kill me you all die, I can utter a single word, Just one word, and every last one of you Spartans dies!"
"So without further adieu, Lets get down to business shall we."

COD4 > Halo 3? and the New Maps
Well, we didn't play Call of Duty 4 last night, but we did play Halo. Which is pretty ironic if you read the latest news about the games. Last week more people played COD4 than Halo 3 over Xbox Live. Something I thought would never happen seeing that Halo 2 dominated Xbox Live for a long time even when 360s had become prevalent.
I have yet to find the numbers associated with this story, although I haven't really tried. But here is one of the stories about it.
Bungie has some new info about the latest batch of DLC (That stands for Downloadable Content, Dammer). I don't think there is any chance of a Damnation remake in these next three maps. We do know that one of the maps is a remake and we have some basic info and code names for the three maps. Any speculation as to what map will be like what would be cool.
Cottonball
"It’s HUGE. For the purposes of this, we’ll codename it Cottonball. I guess a game of Big Team Snipers would be possible, but anything else would be comical without vehicles. This is very much a large scale objective game map – designed first and foremost with CTF and Assault in mind. The map is almost, but not-quite-perfectly symmetrical. Some natural geology prevents each base from being a simple mirror image of the other. I say natural, but the map is set on a Halo, so, natural’s not exactly correct.
It's inclusion of a surprising vehicle or two may make it even more interesting than it already sounds.
The map is large enough so that even when a team makes off with your flag, there’s still a lot of ground you can use to catch up. The other is that each side has some wonderful shortcuts – natural and mechanical – that may not make great flag escape routes, but might let a mobile pursuer cut off escapees."
Cottonball... Snow? Long and almost symmetrical? Shortcuts? Sounds like a remake of Sidewinder to me. Another interesting thing would be a Blood Gulch/Coagulation remake but with snow... kind of like what it would be like in the winter. Your thoughts?
Also, what is this surprising vehicle that he is talking about? My money is on either a passenger hog/gauss hog or what I am really hoping for is the elusive snow hog featuring some sweet tracks and possibly skis. Either way we know Unky would be happy.
Purple Reign
"The map, as we’ve mentioned before, is perfectly symmetrical, slightly too big to be small and slightly too small to be medium. It has some excellent line of sight and well thought-out vertically problems and opportunities. Bridges make short work of long open sections and a central hub is sure to be fought over. Perhaps one of the most interesting features is the use of one-way glass. Iridescent material can disguise your location while you spy on approaching bad guys.
The map is too confined for genuine cat and mouse activity at those choke points and a warren of claustrophobic lower areas makes high ground and control essential. Luckily there are several ways to get up top, from careful jumps to spiraling ramps."
Purple... a small/medium sized map? symmetrical? vertical? bridges? central location? Sounds like a remake of Midship.
OK Corral
"The third and final map, that we’ve nicknamed OK Corral, is a medium-to-large, asymmetrical map that I LOVE playing Slayer on. It’s just big enough to support vehicles, but in a Mongoose, it’s effectively a confined deathtrap. Vehicles are only to be used in emergencies. This map scales pretty well though – in a one-on-one match, there are obvious places to fight close to the center of the map – but the more players there are, the more they tend to sprawl into the outer reaches of the maps, complete with collapsed buildings, wreckage-strewn structures and lots of rebar.
Sniping spots are numerous, but that’s not really what the level is about. What it is about is mastering routes from one end to the other, and knowing high from low. There is nothing scarier than seeing a red dot appear on your radar and not knowing whether that person is above you, or around the next corner. Some interesting use of floor geometry means you might be able to spot someone on high, but not quite have the angle for a shot."
I really don't think this one will be a remake because I am confident that one of the first two will be. Also this map doesn't scream previous map like the others do. This one could be Headlong because of it's emphasis on buildings and rebar but I find it hard to imagine they would remake such a crappy map. But who knows, stranger things have happened.
If you get some free time check out the Bungie forums on what people are guessing the new maps will be. Some people definitely take the code names a little too literally. Like on person was dead sure OK Corral will be an old west town and Cottonball will be a large sphere like that in Super Mario Galaxy. Maybe they are right but it seems a bit far fetched to me.

It's good to be back... for a while.
Good Afternoon KofC,
It's been quite a while since I have been back checking the blog and/or playing halo on a semi daily basis. I was glad to see that Tilla and Loco had posted some information. Granted I am not exactly sure what Loco's was about.
KofC Picture of the day: I saw a Michael Jackson impersonator in Mexico... He was good. But not as good as the Mexican dude that drank an entire bottle of tequila right in front of me (not pictured).
There is someone out there that claims they are the greatest Warthog Driver of all time. That man is LouieBlack. Here are his stats, and he has over 11,500 wheelman assists. Warthog Challenge match in the making? Unky, befriend him.
Bungie just posted some information about the new DLC, which won't be around for a while so the teasers are very generic. Apparently one of the maps is arena style and the other is a remake of someone favorite Halo map (for the love of God be Damnation). He said it was a big map so that could rule Damnation out, except taht it was probably the third largest, wasn't it?
The Bungie post also addresses all the changes Team Hardcore made with the maps. Some of them are interesting, others are not but it seems the biggest change is on Snowbound.
Here is what they did on Snowbound
- Maulers
- Removed central one near underground area
- Two Side Maulers: Respawn rate 90 seconds
- Moved Beam Rifle into Shotgun spawn area
- Shotgun: Removed
- Replaced Active Camo with Overshield
- Respawn time: 180 sec
- Replaced battle rifles with carbines (2 on the low base, one above the high base)
- Respawn rate: 30 seconds
- Removed Spartan Laser
Anyways, it's good to be back in the USofA. That is until the first annual KofC New Year Bahamas Celebration get together trip in a couple days.

I was playing Halo 3...
While bored and waiting for KofC members to appear online to play Halo this evening, I decided to waste an hour surfing the vastness of youtube and happened to find the following video.
Although not yet married, I fear this situation (the one depicted in the video) will one day present itself to me. In that fleeting moment, I must ask myself the ultimate question...Take out the trash or play Halo? After contemplating this dilemma, the next question becomes...How much trash do I have? Can it wait until next week? Will my house begin to smell of rotten cabbage and sour milk? If you have a lot of trash, find some hiding place to put your garbage or conceal it with a handy towel or perhaps some newspaper. When the stench becomes so overwhelming that you find it hard to resist all relentless vomit advances, find a nice bottle of Febreeze or perhaps a smelly candle. That should do the trick. And remember to think of the alternatives when confronted with this inevitable paradox. You always have a choice, just as long as your choice involves playing Halo.

Booze: the KofC's Official Beverage Recommendation
By DammerWillEatU
Seeing as I'm bored at work I think it's time to revisit the clan's health as the holidays arrive and you come into contact with some possibly very disgusting and sickly relatives. As you may remember, a while back we discussed on these very pages the merits of adding the intake of a multi-vitamin to your routine. This may boost the immune system, but what about those quick fixes we sometimes need to clean out the system or provide an instant feel-good moment? Some of you (UnkyDubhawg) may mock what I'm about to present to you, but rest assured most of you will probably agree.

Beer, beer the magical food, the more you drink the more you...die? As Lee Corso would say, "Not so fast my friend!". I've always been a proponent of the healing powers of alcohol, but it is beginning to look like the rest of the world is jumping on the body-building booze bandwagon, and with alliteration like that who wouldn't be!? Seriously though folks, we've all witnessed the amazing and various powers of booze. It's been known to increase speed, strength, intelligence, and even looks.
Now I've run many miles in my life, and I can tell you that if I'm in a short sprint contest, I want to be drunk. Have you ever felt faster than when you're sloshed? Personal experience of running back to my dorm from the bar late on a Saturday night tells me that SB is the fastest man alive.......when drunk. Sprinting is not the only way to run that benefits from booze though, endurance is also greatly increased if you're going slow enough. My Sunday long runs with the cross country team sucked regardless of whether I was sober or not, but at least if I was still drunk I didn't feel the first 5 miles. And sometimes I was even drunk enough that I couldn't get out of bed to go (chalk one up for getting the recommended amount of sleep). I can think of a certain clan member (Unky Eternal) that has no problem going on long drunken excursions, much like this fellow. How tiring would that have been sober? Plus, who here has had a drink or two to get over a hangover? Yeah that's right, IB Profin and alcohol, a hangover's worst enemy...or is it this? (my personal thinking is that if you combined that with a multivitamin you would have a cure for almost any ailment)
Enough about the magical powers though, what about the health benefits I first mentioned? Well obviously if you're running faster and longer you will increase your physical health. If you're grinding on chicks you will have a greater chance of contributing to healthier relationships with the opposite sex (not necessarily the same sex however), thus resulting in a more complete and healthy mental disposition. Now thanks to a new study, you should also know that beers defined as a stout, not a lager, work to decrease your chance of having a heart attack by reducing your bloods ability to clot. Unfortunately for us, the KofC drinks heavily of the latter. This isn't all that discouraging however, considering that the KofC's top beers of choice (Coors, Busch, Keystone) placed well in a recent Consumer Report study. Some of us at the KofC do enjoy a nice glass of red wine anyway, whos health benefits have been proven time and time again.
What is the bottom line here folks? It's quite simple. DRINK YOUR BOOZE! And don't worry about those folks that say you're killing your brain cells. There's proof that they come back anyway, and at the rates they're talking it may be best to live the rollercoaster lifestyle the KofC is known for.

Ode to the Greatest Map in the World: Damnation
According to the Weekly Bungie update they are currently playing a new batch of Downloadable Content. I am sure this won't be released for sometime but it did get me thinking. Specifically, when the Bungie people said the next installment of maps could include "Returning classics demanded by the fans."
Now, I don't think my dream has much of a chance of coming to fruition as I think I am one of a few people that loved this map. But I want to make my case to the people at Bungie to remake the greatest map in this history of all maps.... Damnation. Who could forget that lovable, Covenant Hydro-Processing Center.
I am very sad to say I cannot find a decent screen shot of any action in Damnation. The only thing that even comes close is this.
I will make my case with this following list entitled: Reasons why Damnation kicked so much ass and should be made into a Halo 3 map.
- Damnation had great scale and vertical variation. It played so well with varied ways of avoiding enemies with misdirection and circling behind them.
- There were several ways to get across the map, each had their advantages and disadvantages. But there wasn't one that was better than the rest.
- The power-ups and powerful weapons (Rockets, Overshield) were low on the map requiring constant movement.
- The weapons re-spawned fairly quickly also adding to the constant movement and exciting encounters.
- It was not a symmetrical map, which is great for Team Slayer. But it played like one with objective game types.
- You could grenade the power-ups to provide exciting moments to battle for power-ups (more of an attribute of Halo CE than Damnation but I think it still applies).
- The portals created an inherent danger more than man cannons have in Halo 3. There was something exciting and awesome about a door you couldn't see through. (Unlike the standoffs between the shield doors in Snowbound, for example).
- Make it so you can't sit in the portal and constantly melee.
- Make the low waterfall route a little more accessible and useful.

Thursday's Notes and Links
Pablito Neal is nearing the 1.00 K/D ratio. He is currently at .98 and climbing. Pablito has made it his goal to reach this mark by the end of the weekend. For him to do it he would have to go +54 over the next 4 nights, or about +14 kills each night. I think he can do it and we should all cheer him on... Go Pablito!
I, however, seem to be on the opposite track. Last night was by far my worst night of play since Halo 3 came out. I should have quite after the first few games. Although throughout the night, the teams I played on had a record of 11 wins and 6 losses. I posted a absolutely terrible -42 Kills to Deaths. I averaged 11.5 kills, 6 assists and a terrible, 13.25 deaths. I apologize to all of the KofC members I played with last night, but most specifically Tilla and Loco, for my -21 in the two games I played with them.
The most interesting game of the night had to be our loss to some dbags on Snowbound. We lost 50 - 38 on Team BRs. You can check out the game here. The fact that we lost isn't there interesting point, it's the fact that we had 38 kills as a team and 38 assists as a team. 100% of all the kills we had were assisted. The chances of that happening on a map with a shot gun, a sniper rifle, a laser and a ghost seem incredibly small but some how we did it. No one had less than 6 assists and I, somehow acquired 17. Earlier in the night Squatting Bear had 16 on a Team BR Isolation game.
Speaking of SB, he had some good games last night, which might explain why he wanted me to enter all the stats from last night into the new (and possibly almost done) formula. I am working on getting it all finalized, but Pablito isn't on Google Chat. I think he called in sick and is cuddling with his kitten while watching Oprah right now.

You know all those people on Live that say they are going to totally kill you in real life.? Well they might be getting a call from the police in the future. Some douche in Maryland, Allieu Shaw, has been charged with two misdemeanor counts of disrupting a school operation. He was making threats over XBL about shooting up a school while playing COD4. He faces a maximum penalty of one year in jail and/or a fine of up to $5,000... sucker.
Mini Link-O-Rama:
If anyone is in the market for a huge, yet, sweet computer, check this one out.
Squatting Bear get these rims for you car... now.
For the other guys who are rotting at work with nothing to do except imagining customizing Foundry in forge, Bungie was thinking of you. You can download this pdf and draw your changes so as not to forget them when you go home tonight.
I think we should find a bar where we could host an event like this. How sweet would it be to play rockband with lights on stage through the sound system. We just have to make up a charity.
There's a sweet Halo pic on the BBC website and a good corresponding article. w00t!
If anyone has played BioShock, this will be awfully impressive. And you can buy it on ebay!
Someone found a love letter from Unky.

Assists: Are They Important?
Daymonster and I (well pretty much Daymonster and everyone) have been arguing back and forth on the issue of how important assists are and whether or not they are a sign of better teamwork. Monster had a good point with his observation that assists would be more likely to come from a player's weapon choices. People who prefer being in a pack with BRs will likely produce more assists or someone with a sniper can pretty easily get one bodyshot and have a teammate who's nearer the opponent finish them off, while players who use the power weapons more (shotty, rocks, sword) will rarely get assists. This doesn't necessarily mean the player with the power weapons isn't being a team player, he could very well be protecting his teammates, who are zoomed in on long range targets with their sniper or BR, from opponents coming in at close range. And of course there's no recordable statistic for verbal assists which come from good communication. We can always improve on that.
Another assist disagreement came from what Daymonster and I thought counted as an assist, a difference that could've strongly influenced his belief that they weren't important. If a player lowers an enemy to the brink of death and a teammate comes and finishes the kill with point blank shotty blast, does the first player get an assist? Daymonster argued no since the shotgun would've killed the enemy in one shot anyway, whether or not his shields had been gone. I argued yes because I always assumed it was that way.
So last night we did an experiment in a custom game where me and Monster logged in and he had his second controller as a dummy player. We found the player and Daymonster lowered his shields while I finished him with a point blank mauler, point blank shotty, carbine headshot, hammer then sticky grenade. We ended the game and out of these 5 trials Monster was attributed with 4 assists.
Let's please continue to debate this issue and I'll get a poll up about it.
In other news, we had a request from a guy in Texas to join our clan. He complimented this blog and has really good stats, but most importantly he sounds like he'd fit in with us. Daymonster should be posting his Get To Know 'Em very soon and let's all try to play with him this weekend.

Some KofC Statistics
I'd be lying if I said I was pleased with the clan participation on the site in the recent weeks. It's very selfish of you guys to not be checking/commenting every few minutes. So I had some free time since no one was on the blog and did a couple things.
New Maps Update: With the new maps less than a week away, bungie.net posted some more pictures of Rats Nest, Foundry and Standoff. Or you can check out this review by some dude at HBO, it's pretty good.
And after I looked at all the cool new pictures, I took a look at some of the stats just to see what was going on with KofC.
All of these stats are for Ranked games, obviously game type choices (Team Slayer, Team Objective, Doubles, etc.) might effect these stats but they are still interesting thing to look at.
First I just wanted to see what peoples favorite weapons are it is in order of who has played the most games. It is interesting and should be noted that everyones top 3 results in somewhere between 44% and 53% of their kills (except for Tilla at 59%).
Josey Wales: 416 Games
Sniper 16.80%
Melee: 13.99%
BR: 13.42%
Unky Warthog: 398 Games
Melee: 18.07%
AR: 17.05%
Shotgun: 12.86%
The Daymonster: 365 Games
Melee: 17.32%
Shotgun: 16.30%
AR: 12.20%
Squatting Bear: 336 Games
AR: 20.37%
Melee: 14.24%
Sniper: 11.12%
TILLA1234: 281 Games
BR: 28.50%
AR: 17.19%
Sniper: 13.33%
DammerWillEatU: 255 Games
BR: 23.33%
Melee: 15.14%
AR: 15.08%
Pablito Neal: 237 Games
Melee: 24.08%
AR: 13.29%
BR: 11.62%
LocoPollo: 205 Games
Sniper: 18.72%
BR: 16.99%
AR: 15.08%
Unky Eternal: 124 Games
BR 16.99%
AR: 15.40%
Melee: 14.97%
The Second thing I looked at was average kills per game and average deaths per game. This is a little different than the K/D ratio we are so used to looking at. And I think this might be an interesting stat to look at. It's not on the Bungie website so we have to do the math ourselves. I think there is a real opportunity here. I think we could be looking at the next Moneyball.

Here is the graph of the average deaths per game, sorted from fewest to the most. Loco, Tilla, Eternal and Pablito are all under 10 deaths/game. I think that is a good goal for us all.

This is a graph of the average kills per game.
I am trying to come up with some sort of formula that can put a number on ones impact on a team. And my main question is how import are deaths, assist and kills. Obviously you can't lose if you don't die, and you can't win if you don't get a kill (besides 0-0 ties of course). What do assists do? Just thinking out loud.

SB's Confession and Guardian Discussion
Last night I got a text and an IM from Squatting Bear with the simple word "Halo." Once I received said messages, I left work, chased down a bus that just passed me, ran about 2 blocks (felt like 2 miles) finally caught the bus, crammed myself on to it, much to the dismay of the elderly passengers filling up the space by the doors. Twenty minutes later I was off the bus and running into my apartment.
I get into my apartment, turn on the Xbox and anxiously anticipate a night of Halo. Squatting bear is online. Sweet.
We play a game of Team Doubles and get owned on Narrows. "It's okay I think to myself, this is just a warm up game. We have plenty of time to get things going." I think to myself.
"Oh, Shit. Rose just called," says Squatting Bear.
"What? Who cares, just ignore it, let's keep playing," I reply.
"I can't. I need to go. I need to bake with her, I must bake with her, I am nothing without her, I love her, I want to marry her. I am going to ask her to marry me tonight," screams SB as he leaves the game.
So I play a few games with some chap from England, until I finally sign off. Wondering where all my teammates are. Then I get a phone call from Pablito.
We got a good 7 games in last night. 4 Wins 1 Tie and 2 Loses.
Here was the spread:
Me: 86 Kills, 17 Assists, 62 Deaths
Pablito: 58 Kills 29 Assists, 51 Deaths
Not too bad.
During last night's games I had this double sniper kill. I certainly didn't see the cloaked (seen somewhat transparent in the foreground. When I was trying to kill the guy hiding behind this wall. It was just an added bonus.I think this discussion went pretty well yesterday so I figured we should just keep it going.
Guardian

I think we have a lot of this stuff figured out but there are a few things I think we could clarify. Yesterday I took some screenshots of some areas where I think we could be more specific.
Often when we let someone know where others are we are giving general descriptions of the area for a couple reasons. A) by the time we let them know/can get there they have most likley moved and B) We are not exactly sure where they are specifically.
Times when we could be very specific is when they are crouched and hiding around a corner. Nothing can be more rewarding when you can tell one of your teammates exactly where someone is that is camping.
I am not exactly sure what we should call this area. Possibly Blue Room Lift?
I am inclined to call this the Tree Fort or Forrest. And the area where the Bubble Shield is we could call The Stump. Thoughts?
This Could be called the Branch, or Branch Ramp or some variation. (Example: He is on the branch going towards overshield. Or he is on the branch towards the Tree Fort)
This is often called sniper or over shield. I think if there is someone camping around the corner we should be able to describe it. Possibly, top of sniper ramp or bottom of sniper ramp?
(Also, the SB conversation might have been a bit exaggerated, but much of the facts are true.)

Map Confusion and Clarification
I think we have all been there when we wanted to explain to a teammate exactly where someone is. And we have all been there when we couldn't quite explain it.
Pablito and I decided that we should post a couple maps at a time with a grid and have a discussion on what we should call certain parts of the map. I feel like the maps in Halo 1 and 2 were easier to describe where things were. I could be mistaken but I feel like the symmetrical maps don't have as obvious of sides as in previous Halos. For example "The Pit" we are constantly referring to things as what side we spawned on, or on "Snow Bound" we refer to the different maps as what gun spawns there as opposed to blue or red side, or big and little bases like in previous maps.
Some things are more obvious than others, the devastating weapons like rockets and sword are always a good way to describe areas, but confusion can still happen with certain weapons like sniper areas. Does that describe where it spawns or where 99% of people use it like in "Guardian".
Anyways, enough of the explanation. Here are the maps of The Pit and High Ground.
The Pit
I added a couple of weapon spawns there so you can get your bearings. I somewhat arbitrarily decided on a direction which is open for discussion. I think we need to pretty much find a name for almost every 2-4 squares (that might not make sense). For example D2 and E2 can be described as the West Ramp going up to Sword Room, or the West Ramp going down to the Overshield. This might be overkill (no pun intended) but it could really help us working as a team.
UPDATE:
After finding a video walk through of the Pit, I noticed the different sides have different names. or letters I should say. I took some screenshots, they can be seen below. M is the side we originally decided would be West, while K would be East. East Shotgun Room would be M1, while the East Blue Room is M2. I don't think this is any better than East or West but at least we have writing on the wall to help. Just a thought. (Also, any rhyme or reason they went with K and W?)
High Ground
This map is obviously pretty large and might not work well with this small of map, but it might help to get the discussion started.
Anyways, what's your take on the locations within these two maps?
