No Xbox, No Problem

As Pablito attempts to fix his Xbox/power supply issues, I think playing Settlers of Catan online is a good alternative.

After playing the physical game with Unky Yeager, Unky Playboy, and another graduate from our fine institution, I figured there must be a way to play online. Sure enough, Catan Online World is just the place. While the interface takes some time getting used to, it is a very active community and the games are always running. I shudder thinking about the amount of hours I've spent playing Catan online over the last week or so, but in moderation, it would be a good way for far away Knights to reconnect.

The best part about Catan online? No set-up or clean-up.

You can, but not for free. I know you guy usually play the expansion, but I have only played it once or twice so I don't know what I'm missing.

Most of us have it on 360.

catan is on 360?

It is, but I don't like it as much.

On 360 you can see the exact amount of resources that are being held in the game (not for individuals, but as a whole) and the games don't run as frequently.

Online, there is always a game and the people are usually pretty quick.

SB just got an account and beat Playboy and I the first two games. I think it's fair to say that the Unkys underestimated SB, and look forward to playing more games.

It's pretty fun online, I'll definitely be playing some more games.

that's awesome! i'd love to play against you guys in some settlers. it's really difficult to go back to playing without the cities and knights expansion though.

I've never played the Cities and Knights expansion, does it increase game time any? My brothers and I made our own Settlers at home using cardboard for the tiles, legos for the roads, settlements, and cities, and a small pewter Annakin Skywalker statue (post-little kid, pre-Darth, pre-Hayden Christiansen...it came with a Monopoly Star Wars game for our computer) for the robber. We printed the resources.

I'll have to play with you guys on that site. I actually like the 360 version telling me available resources (yeah I know it's kinda lame....I don't like thinking), but games aren't readily available. And the computer cheats worse than Madden.

Download the BulletStorm demo. This should be the next KoFC game. It's got a lot of awesome coop and multiplayer type stuff.

ya dammer, the cities and knights expansion increases game time because it introduces some new strategic elements and you play to 13 victory points instead of 10.

the 2 main differences are you build knights and actually place them on the island. they can be used to break up someone's longest road, and every once in a while barbarians attack the island and everyone's knights team up to fight the barbs.

the second difference is that there are no development cards, rather there are 3 decks of 'progress cards' that help you in different ways.
