Feel free to add some or change some names in the comments.
I also made this video of some (kind of) secret routes and places to go in highrise. I am sure you know many of these places but I figure some of you might not know about them.

Welcome Back
Hey everybody, it's Monday morning and I am ridiculously tired. After going to Cub Foods at like 5 in the morning on Friday I never recovered any sleep all weekend. I had a great time Friday night and I wish there could have been more KofCers in attendance. But seeing Eternal and SB was a good start.
Also, my sister, who has not bowled more than 5 times in her life, bowled a 189 on Saturday night, in the 7th frame she had this as her score: X / X X X X X. I was impressed. Dammer, Tilla, just out of curiosity, what's your average score?
It's been over 33 days since I last saw my beautiful black xbox. And according to xbox.com, it's still at the service center, which means even if it left today it won't be at my apartment until after I move. So, looks like I will not be getting my xbox back. Bummer. Luckily my PSP and God of War is keeping me occupied for the time being.
Since I am so tired, I am not going to post too much. However I am interested in what everyone did for their Easter weekend, so please share with the rest of us in the comments section. Here are a couple links to get you through the day.
If you want to get your TV, Xbox, PS3, cell phone or any other device colored, this site seems to do a pretty good job of it. You can buy the system directly from them, or send in your old one. Play around with the different color schemes for the Xbox, it's pretty cool.
COD4 is no a MLG game and their pro ladder starts March 31st. Once I get my new internet I would be down to give it a whirl. If you ever wondered how the MLG online ladders work, here is the LONG rule list for the COD4 ladder.
Another Top 10 list from MLG, I haven't seen it yet since my internet is on the fritz, but I imagine it's gotta be pretty good. I guess this one isn't the high pros, it's made up of user submitted footage.
As far as Halo is concerned, the third map in the legendary pack will be revealed tomorrow and the actual maps go on sale on April 15th. Also the Heroic pack will become free late tonight (like 4am CT). That should be good as more people will have them now and we can start playing them on Team Slayer. [Read the latest Bungie update here.]
That's about it. I am bummed I didn't get to see some of you guys this weekend, we gotta plan something soon.

Video Game Tattoos and New Halo Map
IMPORTANT: At 5pm CST, I will be migrating the website to kofcclan.blogspot.com. Update your bookmarks, homepage, business cards and anything else that has the old information on it.
There is a kind of a lot of news today so try to stay with me.
Video Game Tattoo:
Yesterday's post about the guy with the Halo Legendary tattoo got me thinking. What if he had received a tattoo with the images of his other favorite games. Would they be as cool if it were some other video game character instead of the Elite head and crossed swords?
While this tattoo isn't as cool as these ones, I did get a chance to talk to the man that got legendary tat and he agreed to answer some of my questions. He told me that he first considered getting a couple different games tattooed on his back and sometimes regrets his final decision. He was always a big fan of Pong so he considered the iconic Pong paddle and square ball.
He decided that a large vertical black line might not be recognizable as a video game character and could show through his white shirts. Thus making it look like he was always wearing a jersey numbered, 1.
He also considered his favorite game of all time. It's a rather new game but the programming is top notch, he has been playing it pretty much non-stop since the midnight release party.
That's right, he is a HUGE Dr. Daisy Pet Vet fan.
New Halo Map: Avalanche
They released the details and images of the second new map in the Legendary Map Pack. It will be released on April 15th (tax day! yay!) for 800 MS points. This is the same prices as the Heroic pack but let's hope it's better.
Like I predicted the second map, which was named Cottonball is now named Avalanche and is a remake of Sidewinder. They say it's more of a tribute to Sidewinder and not so much a remake and I think it's neither. It has a similar curved shape but that seems to be where the greatness that comes from the Halo 1 map ends. They have gotten rid of the tunnel system that connected the two bases, and there are no portals nor ladders.
According to Bungie they want to focus the fighting out into the open with vehicles. I never really used vehicles in Sidewinder, well, except for using the turret in the hog to slip through the gate where the overshield and cloak was. I really don't want to be forced to do anything in a map, that seems to take a way the creativity that Halo 1 was known for.
Anyway check out Bungie's write up of the new map and let me know what you guys think. I think Josey knows what I am talking about when I say I am not getting my hopes up.
OMGGH4DS:
Guitar Hero: On Tour for the DS was revealed today. Check out the link. There is a peripheral for the DS, I don't think you will be disappointed.
Dammer gets 50 bucks:
Dammer you did buy the HDDVD player for the Xbox didn't you? Did you get it at Best Buy or Circuit City? Well if you did, and if any other Knight did, you can get a $50 dollar giftcard from the retail stores if you can prove you bought it before the Microsoft called the format "dead".
COD4 Update for PS3 (No one cares? Oh okay.)
The COD4 update just came out for the PS3 version of the game, so I can finally see the improvements you guys have been playing with for a while.

RROD and New Maps
I always thought it could never happen to me. I just bought mine a few months ago, it's elite, Microsoft got it's shit together. But then it happened. I got a bad case of the Red Ring of Death. I was playing COD4 with Tilla and my Xbox froze twice in a row. I asked Tilla what happened to his right before it went dead and he said it took a while after it started freezing. I believed him but, he was wrong.
This is the last image I have of my xbox working. Believe me, there were about 15 noobs coming around that corner and I was about to mow 'em down. My current Xbox Repair Status is "Waiting for Device at Service Center" man these next few weeks are going to suck. I am thinking about buying a 360 core system for the meantime, or possibly buying another PS3 (because my brother-in-law has my other one). It really sucks because I just started Netflix again and now I can't watch them. I mean I guess I could watch them from my computer hooked to my TV or even on my laptop but still, it's annoying.
I called Xbox Support and I talked to this dude that assured me the empty box is on it's way. He told me to take down a tracking number and do a few things with it. First he said write it on a piece of paper with the letters "SR" in front of the alphanumeric string of characters and tape that to the Xbox, he also said to write that same number below the address when I send it back. It didn't say this anywhere on the website and I was wondering if anyone did this and if it really help expedite the process?
Josey did you get your Xbox back yet? Tilla, what about you? It's really messed up that almost half of the KofC have been struck by this deadly disease.
Dammer's Brother (Maestro, I believe) sent this article from the WSJ about online gaming for money. It looks pretty sweet and once I get my 360 up and running again (God Dammit, it make s me mad just thinking about it.) we should start owning nubs for cash.
Also Bungie released information on one of the three maps from the Legendary Map Pack. There are a few images of the new map titled "Ghost Town" formally "OK Corral" the map looks pretty cool, but then again so did the other three from the Heroic Map Pack and they were kinda lame. Here is the link, tell me what you think.

COD4 > Halo 3? and the New Maps
Well, we didn't play Call of Duty 4 last night, but we did play Halo. Which is pretty ironic if you read the latest news about the games. Last week more people played COD4 than Halo 3 over Xbox Live. Something I thought would never happen seeing that Halo 2 dominated Xbox Live for a long time even when 360s had become prevalent.
I have yet to find the numbers associated with this story, although I haven't really tried. But here is one of the stories about it.
Bungie has some new info about the latest batch of DLC (That stands for Downloadable Content, Dammer). I don't think there is any chance of a Damnation remake in these next three maps. We do know that one of the maps is a remake and we have some basic info and code names for the three maps. Any speculation as to what map will be like what would be cool.
Cottonball
"It’s HUGE. For the purposes of this, we’ll codename it Cottonball. I guess a game of Big Team Snipers would be possible, but anything else would be comical without vehicles. This is very much a large scale objective game map – designed first and foremost with CTF and Assault in mind. The map is almost, but not-quite-perfectly symmetrical. Some natural geology prevents each base from being a simple mirror image of the other. I say natural, but the map is set on a Halo, so, natural’s not exactly correct.
It's inclusion of a surprising vehicle or two may make it even more interesting than it already sounds.
The map is large enough so that even when a team makes off with your flag, there’s still a lot of ground you can use to catch up. The other is that each side has some wonderful shortcuts – natural and mechanical – that may not make great flag escape routes, but might let a mobile pursuer cut off escapees."
Cottonball... Snow? Long and almost symmetrical? Shortcuts? Sounds like a remake of Sidewinder to me. Another interesting thing would be a Blood Gulch/Coagulation remake but with snow... kind of like what it would be like in the winter. Your thoughts?
Also, what is this surprising vehicle that he is talking about? My money is on either a passenger hog/gauss hog or what I am really hoping for is the elusive snow hog featuring some sweet tracks and possibly skis. Either way we know Unky would be happy.
Purple Reign
"The map, as we’ve mentioned before, is perfectly symmetrical, slightly too big to be small and slightly too small to be medium. It has some excellent line of sight and well thought-out vertically problems and opportunities. Bridges make short work of long open sections and a central hub is sure to be fought over. Perhaps one of the most interesting features is the use of one-way glass. Iridescent material can disguise your location while you spy on approaching bad guys.
The map is too confined for genuine cat and mouse activity at those choke points and a warren of claustrophobic lower areas makes high ground and control essential. Luckily there are several ways to get up top, from careful jumps to spiraling ramps."
Purple... a small/medium sized map? symmetrical? vertical? bridges? central location? Sounds like a remake of Midship.
OK Corral
"The third and final map, that we’ve nicknamed OK Corral, is a medium-to-large, asymmetrical map that I LOVE playing Slayer on. It’s just big enough to support vehicles, but in a Mongoose, it’s effectively a confined deathtrap. Vehicles are only to be used in emergencies. This map scales pretty well though – in a one-on-one match, there are obvious places to fight close to the center of the map – but the more players there are, the more they tend to sprawl into the outer reaches of the maps, complete with collapsed buildings, wreckage-strewn structures and lots of rebar.
Sniping spots are numerous, but that’s not really what the level is about. What it is about is mastering routes from one end to the other, and knowing high from low. There is nothing scarier than seeing a red dot appear on your radar and not knowing whether that person is above you, or around the next corner. Some interesting use of floor geometry means you might be able to spot someone on high, but not quite have the angle for a shot."
I really don't think this one will be a remake because I am confident that one of the first two will be. Also this map doesn't scream previous map like the others do. This one could be Headlong because of it's emphasis on buildings and rebar but I find it hard to imagine they would remake such a crappy map. But who knows, stranger things have happened.
If you get some free time check out the Bungie forums on what people are guessing the new maps will be. Some people definitely take the code names a little too literally. Like on person was dead sure OK Corral will be an old west town and Cottonball will be a large sphere like that in Super Mario Galaxy. Maybe they are right but it seems a bit far fetched to me.

Daymonster to Leave Clan and other Bizarre Things
I haven't had the opportunity to play too much Halo lately, but when I have had a chance no one from my beloved KofC has been on. In fact some haven't been online for over two weeks! Last night I did play a couple games with Dammer, and that was good, but not as good as it used to be, back when we all played.
But then something happened, I saw Dajuicee was on. Now, many of you might not know Dajuicee but I played a couple games with him and Adeclipse back when Adeclipse was new. I don't know Dajuicee very well, and as far as I can tell he is some sort of secret gay lover with Adeclipse, but that's not important. What is important is when I checked out his Halo party, I saw he was playing with 4 other people. Wow, 4 other people! That know each other?! That are communicating?!
I joined in their party and saw that Adeclipse was playing under a different name and we proceeded to play some social slayers. It reminded me of the good old days when we were all playing, talking, laughing, livin', L-I-V-I-N'. I miss those days and that is why I am leaving the Knights of Cydonia. It is too hard for to be a part of this great group and still be missing the everyday discussion and frequent Halo play dates of yester. It's been great knowing you guys and maybe one day we can be clan-mates again.
P.S. I am joking about quitting the clan. And the gay lover comment (kind of).
Speaking of other things that are about as strange as The Daymonster quitting the KofC, a USA Today article talks about how major music labels and individual bands are now approaching game makers trying to get their songs onto games like Rock Band and GHIII.
2.5 million songs have been downloaded since Rock Band has come out. And since only about 1 million copies of RB have been sold, that's like 2.5 downloaded songs per copy. That's a lot.
Here is the list of the 10 most popular songs for Rock Band DLC:
1. Metallica (Ride the Lightning, Blackened, And Justice for All)
2. The Police (Can’t Stand Losing You, Roxanne, Synchronicity II)
3. Black Sabbath (covers of N.I.B., Sweet Leaf, War Pigs)
4. Queens of the Stone Age (3s and 7s, Sick Sick Sick, Little Sister)
5. David Bowie (Heroes, Moonage Daydream, Queen Bitch)
6. Weezer, Buddy Holly
7. Foreigner, Juke Box Hero
8. Creedence Clearwater Revival, cover of Fortunate Son
9. The Knack, cover of My Sharona
10. All-American Rejects (Dirty Little Secret, Move Along)
Other strange occurrences? Well, somebody combined Super Mario and Halo into a strange side-scrolling adventure, called Super Mario Fusion. The video can be found here, and if you want you can download the game here.
Since this is a post about things that aren't normally done. I want to take this opportunity to extend the proverbial olive branch to LocoPollo/Puyo. Why let little things like what computer or what OS is better get in the way of a long and illustrious friendship? Let's stop this right here and show the Jews and the Muslims how saying you're sorry can go a long way. I'm sorry Loco, I hope you forgive me. Also, can you get me a free copy of Dr. Daisy Pet Vet. I also noticed Josey typing in the shout box at the right --->. This is also something that rarely happens. But it something that makes me very happy. I have been downloading about 8 new maps everyday (that's the limit you can do each time). What you need to do is sign into bungie.net. Make sure it says "Welcome, Josey Wales!" or what ever your Gamer Tag is.
Now go to the Game Map Variant Forum on the website. When you click on the forums you will go to a new page where the Map is posted. Here is an example of a map called "Titanic" at the top you will see something like this. Now click on "Download to Halo 3". Once you click on that you should see this.
Now click "OK" and you can continue doing this 7 more times. Game variants are the same way and often they are posted right with the Map so you can use them together.
Hope that helps Josey.
Also, go to google and type in "what you didn't know about the knights of Cydonia". We have gotten over 20 visitors in the last month from this search. People are going to know a lot about you, Eternal.

Ode to the Greatest Map in the World: Damnation
According to the Weekly Bungie update they are currently playing a new batch of Downloadable Content. I am sure this won't be released for sometime but it did get me thinking. Specifically, when the Bungie people said the next installment of maps could include "Returning classics demanded by the fans."
Now, I don't think my dream has much of a chance of coming to fruition as I think I am one of a few people that loved this map. But I want to make my case to the people at Bungie to remake the greatest map in this history of all maps.... Damnation. Who could forget that lovable, Covenant Hydro-Processing Center.
I am very sad to say I cannot find a decent screen shot of any action in Damnation. The only thing that even comes close is this.
I will make my case with this following list entitled: Reasons why Damnation kicked so much ass and should be made into a Halo 3 map.
- Damnation had great scale and vertical variation. It played so well with varied ways of avoiding enemies with misdirection and circling behind them.
- There were several ways to get across the map, each had their advantages and disadvantages. But there wasn't one that was better than the rest.
- The power-ups and powerful weapons (Rockets, Overshield) were low on the map requiring constant movement.
- The weapons re-spawned fairly quickly also adding to the constant movement and exciting encounters.
- It was not a symmetrical map, which is great for Team Slayer. But it played like one with objective game types.
- You could grenade the power-ups to provide exciting moments to battle for power-ups (more of an attribute of Halo CE than Damnation but I think it still applies).
- The portals created an inherent danger more than man cannons have in Halo 3. There was something exciting and awesome about a door you couldn't see through. (Unlike the standoffs between the shield doors in Snowbound, for example).
- Make it so you can't sit in the portal and constantly melee.
- Make the low waterfall route a little more accessible and useful.

Notes from Monday
There is actually a lot to talk about today, which normally would get me all excited. But for some reason I am not in a posting mood. Yeah, it's crazy, I know. So while much of this could be expanded on, I am going to make this post relatively short, and hope you guys pick up some steam in the comments.
First and foremost, I think we are all in agreement on this, but Pablito and I wanted to make it official. We would like to formally welcome Adeclipse to the Knights of Cydonia. [Hold for Applause] Pablito and I had the pleasure of playing with him on Friday night. We played 7 games of a mix of Team Slayer and Team Doubles and we won all 7 games.
Here was Adeclipse's averages for the night: 11.5 Kills/Game, 6.7 Assists/Game and 10.3 Deaths/Game. I can say with honesty that he is a good player who communicates well and will fit in nicely with the KofC style. I was worried at first that a possible southern drawl would come off difficult to hear or annoying but, to be honest, it was quite soothing.

But anyways Christmas is getting closer and if anyone out there wants to get me anything they could get me this. It's pretty sweet but I am hoping they come out with a needler version soon.
Speaking of things getting closer, the three new maps will be released tomorrow. I am not sure how it works. Will they be released at midnight tonight? Sometime Tomorrow? I am not sure, but what I am sure of is that we should all play tomorrow night and test them out.
A lot of people have been talking about all the matchmaking shit that goes with the new maps. Well, I really suggest you read the latest update from Bungie. Looks like there are a lot of things that are going to be changing on matchmaking within the next few months. Nothing made me upset, which is rare.
A few things that actually effect us:
- They are going to be "some long requested BR Start variants and a wider map selection in the ranked play lists." I am not sure what maps they are going to change the BR start points but hopefully it will be beneficial to us.
- Team Objective will be focused on CTF (both One Flag and Multi Flag variants) and Assault. Territories, OddBall and VIP will be taken out of TO and moved into a different Matchmaking called Team Control.
- They hope to have a ranked BTB sometime in January.
I don't know how much stuff you guys read on the internets, as many of you have far better things to be doing (SB winning monies, Tilla getting married, Adeclipse being married, Josey tanning, etc.) but here are a couple of good videogame blogs I often check during my day.
And last but not least, I would like to revisit the idea of standard KofC emblem. Seems we ran into a little wall a week or two ago. I really don't care what it is and I am not sure who actually does. I think the person who cares the most on what emblem it is, might be Josey (no disrespect). So what if Josey determines his emblem (Green Wolf perhaps?) and we can either adopt it or then determine what should be the common theme.
I also, if I have time plan on making a few sample ideas and posting them so be on the look out for that! Exciting I know.

Some KofC Statistics
I'd be lying if I said I was pleased with the clan participation on the site in the recent weeks. It's very selfish of you guys to not be checking/commenting every few minutes. So I had some free time since no one was on the blog and did a couple things.
New Maps Update: With the new maps less than a week away, bungie.net posted some more pictures of Rats Nest, Foundry and Standoff. Or you can check out this review by some dude at HBO, it's pretty good.
And after I looked at all the cool new pictures, I took a look at some of the stats just to see what was going on with KofC.
All of these stats are for Ranked games, obviously game type choices (Team Slayer, Team Objective, Doubles, etc.) might effect these stats but they are still interesting thing to look at.
First I just wanted to see what peoples favorite weapons are it is in order of who has played the most games. It is interesting and should be noted that everyones top 3 results in somewhere between 44% and 53% of their kills (except for Tilla at 59%).
Josey Wales: 416 Games
Sniper 16.80%
Melee: 13.99%
BR: 13.42%
Unky Warthog: 398 Games
Melee: 18.07%
AR: 17.05%
Shotgun: 12.86%
The Daymonster: 365 Games
Melee: 17.32%
Shotgun: 16.30%
AR: 12.20%
Squatting Bear: 336 Games
AR: 20.37%
Melee: 14.24%
Sniper: 11.12%
TILLA1234: 281 Games
BR: 28.50%
AR: 17.19%
Sniper: 13.33%
DammerWillEatU: 255 Games
BR: 23.33%
Melee: 15.14%
AR: 15.08%
Pablito Neal: 237 Games
Melee: 24.08%
AR: 13.29%
BR: 11.62%
LocoPollo: 205 Games
Sniper: 18.72%
BR: 16.99%
AR: 15.08%
Unky Eternal: 124 Games
BR 16.99%
AR: 15.40%
Melee: 14.97%
The Second thing I looked at was average kills per game and average deaths per game. This is a little different than the K/D ratio we are so used to looking at. And I think this might be an interesting stat to look at. It's not on the Bungie website so we have to do the math ourselves. I think there is a real opportunity here. I think we could be looking at the next Moneyball.
Here is the graph of the average deaths per game, sorted from fewest to the most. Loco, Tilla, Eternal and Pablito are all under 10 deaths/game. I think that is a good goal for us all.
This is a graph of the average kills per game.
I am trying to come up with some sort of formula that can put a number on ones impact on a team. And my main question is how import are deaths, assist and kills. Obviously you can't lose if you don't die, and you can't win if you don't get a kill (besides 0-0 ties of course). What do assists do? Just thinking out loud.

SB's Confession and Guardian Discussion
Last night I got a text and an IM from Squatting Bear with the simple word "Halo." Once I received said messages, I left work, chased down a bus that just passed me, ran about 2 blocks (felt like 2 miles) finally caught the bus, crammed myself on to it, much to the dismay of the elderly passengers filling up the space by the doors. Twenty minutes later I was off the bus and running into my apartment.
I get into my apartment, turn on the Xbox and anxiously anticipate a night of Halo. Squatting bear is online. Sweet.
We play a game of Team Doubles and get owned on Narrows. "It's okay I think to myself, this is just a warm up game. We have plenty of time to get things going." I think to myself.
"Oh, Shit. Rose just called," says Squatting Bear.
"What? Who cares, just ignore it, let's keep playing," I reply.
"I can't. I need to go. I need to bake with her, I must bake with her, I am nothing without her, I love her, I want to marry her. I am going to ask her to marry me tonight," screams SB as he leaves the game.
So I play a few games with some chap from England, until I finally sign off. Wondering where all my teammates are. Then I get a phone call from Pablito.
We got a good 7 games in last night. 4 Wins 1 Tie and 2 Loses.
Here was the spread:
Me: 86 Kills, 17 Assists, 62 Deaths
Pablito: 58 Kills 29 Assists, 51 Deaths
Not too bad.

I think this discussion went pretty well yesterday so I figured we should just keep it going.
Guardian

I think we have a lot of this stuff figured out but there are a few things I think we could clarify. Yesterday I took some screenshots of some areas where I think we could be more specific.
Often when we let someone know where others are we are giving general descriptions of the area for a couple reasons. A) by the time we let them know/can get there they have most likley moved and B) We are not exactly sure where they are specifically.
Times when we could be very specific is when they are crouched and hiding around a corner. Nothing can be more rewarding when you can tell one of your teammates exactly where someone is that is camping.

I am not exactly sure what we should call this area. Possibly Blue Room Lift?
I am inclined to call this the Tree Fort or Forrest. And the area where the Bubble Shield is we could call The Stump. Thoughts?
This Could be called the Branch, or Branch Ramp or some variation. (Example: He is on the branch going towards overshield. Or he is on the branch towards the Tree Fort)
This is often called sniper or over shield. I think if there is someone camping around the corner we should be able to describe it. Possibly, top of sniper ramp or bottom of sniper ramp?
(Also, the SB conversation might have been a bit exaggerated, but much of the facts are true.)

Map Confusion and Clarification
I think we have all been there when we wanted to explain to a teammate exactly where someone is. And we have all been there when we couldn't quite explain it.
Pablito and I decided that we should post a couple maps at a time with a grid and have a discussion on what we should call certain parts of the map. I feel like the maps in Halo 1 and 2 were easier to describe where things were. I could be mistaken but I feel like the symmetrical maps don't have as obvious of sides as in previous Halos. For example "The Pit" we are constantly referring to things as what side we spawned on, or on "Snow Bound" we refer to the different maps as what gun spawns there as opposed to blue or red side, or big and little bases like in previous maps.
Some things are more obvious than others, the devastating weapons like rockets and sword are always a good way to describe areas, but confusion can still happen with certain weapons like sniper areas. Does that describe where it spawns or where 99% of people use it like in "Guardian".
Anyways, enough of the explanation. Here are the maps of The Pit and High Ground.
The Pit
I added a couple of weapon spawns there so you can get your bearings. I somewhat arbitrarily decided on a direction which is open for discussion. I think we need to pretty much find a name for almost every 2-4 squares (that might not make sense). For example D2 and E2 can be described as the West Ramp going up to Sword Room, or the West Ramp going down to the Overshield. This might be overkill (no pun intended) but it could really help us working as a team.
UPDATE:
After finding a video walk through of the Pit, I noticed the different sides have different names. or letters I should say. I took some screenshots, they can be seen below. M is the side we originally decided would be West, while K would be East. East Shotgun Room would be M1, while the East Blue Room is M2. I don't think this is any better than East or West but at least we have writing on the wall to help. Just a thought. (Also, any rhyme or reason they went with K and W?)
High Ground
This map is obviously pretty large and might not work well with this small of map, but it might help to get the discussion started.
Anyways, what's your take on the locations within these two maps?
