10k race yo?

Throughout the last few years of my life Josey Wales has been especially inspirational. Countless times have I resisted a Boot Challenge, tequila shots, or a daily lift routine, but he has always been there with his incessantly loud voice urging me on.

I've used all the excuses; ''It's a Sunday night!'', ''I'm hungover!'', ''I just got out of the hospital after I had a catheter up my urethra!'', but Josey showed no mercy.

Even once, after having a run-in with the law, I used the now-classic line, ''But my friends (Josey) had always told me to run from the cops!'' Needless to say, this wasn't all that effective. Thanks, Josey.

I know Josey has had an impact on all of us. How many times has he convinced SB to drink, call Domino's or buy a house? How incredibly influential has he been on Daymonster's political views? And how many times has he 'convinced' all of us that he should be the one to pick up snipes. I can't imagine how many times he has led a building rampage with Eternal and Dammer, but the number is surely greater that 3 or 4.

Well, he's at it again. Though I haven't talked to him about his 50k race, and he doesn't seem to want to respond to this feat, I've decided that I will do him 40k worse and run my first 10k (or any race for that matter). On Sunday two friends and I are planning to run this race in the 90 degree heat that is Malta in late April and my goal is to break 55 minutes (~9 minute miles).

What do you think of my chances?

I think this is a very good idea! I also think you should be able to break 9 min miles no problem, unless the course is super hilly. I will get the 50K race post up soon, sorry again.

Burr/Dave when are you coming home - Mannys . . . booze fest . . . party?

Yeah of course you can do a 10k. Are you doing any training? 55 minutes is a solid goal for never having raced. Just remember that if you start to hurt, distract yourself with music or a discussion (if you are capable of talking) and you'll get an extra mile or two of running before you realize you're hurting again.

I think run as fast as you can as long as you can. I mean at a pace you can hold, if you think your legs are going to hurt, they will no matter how fast you start at. I ran way slower than i could run 10 miles in and my legs hurt like hell around then anyway, so make up time when you can I say. Also I dont know when this race is but I think you coudl get in shape for it easy as long as you have like a week and a half.

I would say if you run like you would on a leisurely jog right away, and then after about a mile pick it up and "cruise" as we call it that would be a good pace. Like Josh said since you don't have much training you'll hurt regardless. If you did train for it then cruising the whole race would actually seem easy until the end when you would inevitably decide that you'll look really cool if you sprint as hard as you can. At that point you might think about shitting yourself, but you'll have that.

How long do you have. I you have some time, your legs might not hurt, I dont want to make this sound bad, if you have run for 35 min and you have some time, there is a really good chance you will avoid the pain.

mmmm... Manny's sounds so good right now

from an exercise physiology aspect, it's much better for you as a new runner to run longer, slower. But it's really up to you.

god dammit, that was me not Anna

It'd be more credible if it was really from Anna.
