Cease and Desist

EDIT: This post has to do with the our clan when we were the Knights of Columbus. We have since changed our name to the Knights of Cydonia.

Daymonster may want to expand this post later and add a rant or funny picture but I thought the other clan members needed to be notified asap so we can all start thinking of a new name.

Earlier today, The Daymonster received an email with a cease and desist notice from a lawyer representing a catholic organization also called the Knights of Columbus. Unfortunately, these guys have the name trademarked and stated we must find a new name and delete any references to our old name within 7 days or they'd begin pursuing legal action.

:-(

So let's see some new clan name ideas in the comments section, okay!

This is awesome. Probably extremely problematic, but still pretty interesting. I was unaware that us playing a video game in any way shape or form affected the organization of Knights of Columbus. Oh well, what names are being considered as of right now? Also, sorry i haven't been on in a while, i'm actually in Colorado on vacation with my wife right now and won't be back til like Sunday/Monday.

i like knights of cydonia. when we had the theme song contest i thought of that song after we'd already voted on immigrant song

and it's not trademarked so we can't get sued by muse or anything. you can check at http://www.uspto.gov/

I like Knights of Cydonia as well. Does the real Knights of Columbus have their symbol trademarked, or can we still use that? What about KofC?

Have you verified the accuracy of the email or whatever/double checked that we aren't being hoodwinked? Are we going to have to go throughout every blog post/comment and take out any references to Knights of Columbus? FYI I won't be around until Saturday so I won't be much help in that process until then.

Josey, would you be able to defend us if we are sued? You're probably bigger and scarier than the opposing lawyer....we could win and take over the real Knights of Columbus!

i'd really like to keep the KofC acronym and that is not trademarked so that much is okay.

deleting all comments? i'm not sure we'd need to do that, besides in how many comments do you think we mentioned the entire phrase knights of columbus (besides this thread)? we'll definitely have to change it on the halowiki site, that's more public than our blog.

but the most important factor is we have to find out who snitched on us because i doubt one of the their members was browsing through blogger and came upon us by accident.

Knights of Columbo? That old detective TV show? Anybody?

It was probably some child that told his father about the coincidence he saw while playing video games. The father was then like "we can't have that happening to my organization bwahahahahaha", and he brought it up at their next gathering. It was then escalated to the Grand Knight or whatever it's called and he brought down his swift sword of retribution and wrote a letter (in the blood of some freshly killed heathens) with the tip of his sword to his lawyer. The lawyer, already having the fresh scent of blood in his nostrils, attacked our poor poor Daymonster.

What about a disclaimer in the top right corner of every page saying that you would have to be a moron to think we were associated with the REAL Knights of Columbus

Where is our lawyer friend when we need him? Josey, this is precisely the kind of thing you're supposed to take care of.
