Official KofC Song List For Voting

After much wait and anticipation we have finally received a song from every member (kind of) of the KofC clan. Here are the rules:

Each song's title will be listed by the clan members name and a short (or not so short) reasoning for the song. It could be an explanation from the clan member himself or just a posting of the lyrics. Along with the explanation and title of the song there is obviously the song itself. Click on the arrow to hear each song. (Josey if you edit this post and mess up the code again, I'll kill you, not in real life but I'll betray you once... on purpose.)

Vote for two songs that you like in the comment section and you can't vote for your own. I think that's all of the rules so....on to the songs!

Josey Wales:
Power Station - We Fight For Love

"I will protect you, nothing can hurt you (the flag).
I am a mountain surrounded by your love.
We fight for love.
Somewhere. Somehow. Someone.
I fight with fire (flamethrower), as I watch them conspire, to blow the wold apart,
between the light and the endless fight, you will always be in my heart (sniper rifle).
Somewhere. Somehow. Someone.
We fight for love."
Dissection: Clearly the opening statements of this song reflect the Knights of Cydonia. I think the words and also the solid 80's music sum up our clan. I know I fight for love, I find myself trying a lot harder when there is another clan member in the game, it just means more to me. I really don't like to let my team members or the clan down and I think we all play with a lot of intensity, for similar reasons. Its hard on me anytime I see a teammate die because I feel like I could have done more, it just pisses me off. So if you are like me, and feel that you play with lots of intensity because you fight for love of the other clan members, vote for this song. In a final note I think a solid 80's rock song also says a lot about our clan, many of us enjoy some solid 80's rock, its bad ass music, like our clan!

Unky Warthog:
TuPac - Me Against the World

This selection may come as a surprise to many of you. After all, I am in no way a rap fanatic, but prefer slower, easy-listening/gay types of bands (think Coldplay and Death Cab). However, while perusing my iTunes, I could get over how much this song means to me, and hopefully KofC.
"Can you picture my prophecy?
There ain't no stoppin me
Constantly movin while makin millions"
At first I imagined an invincible (he just got OS, obv) SB strafing with his turret, shooting down nubs while clicking his mouse and winning his house. However, I then realized this could be apply to any KofC member, past or present, though "7-Figures" Daymonster is probably the most likely target.

"Witnessin killings, leavin dead bodies in abandoned buildings
Carries to children cause they're illin
Addicted to killin and the appeal from the cap peelin
Without feelin, but will they last or be blasted?"
B-Buttoning/Rocketing/BRing in High Ground, Last Resort, Construct, Shotty huts (various maps) and simply moving on to new enemies w/o regard for life or limb. It's what we do. We like it and we cannot stop.
"Hard headed bastard"

"Maybe he'll listen in his casket -- the aftermath
More bodies being buried -- I'm losing my homies in a hurry
They're relocating to the cemetery
Got me worried, stressin, my vision's blurried"
An epic battle. I see my comrades falling and urging me on through their mics while I spin around erratically, trying desperately to locate the player indicator while being hit with a well-placed flare by the opposing team.

"The question is will I live? No one in the world loves me
I'm headed for danger, don't trust strangers
Put one in the chamber whenever I'm feelin this anger"
At this point all my KofC members are dead. The only person left on my team is some 12-year old girl telling me how good dual plasma rifles are. Fuck. Better reload my shotty.

"Don't wanna make excuses, cause this is how it is
What's the use unless we're shootin no one notices the youth
It's just me against the world baby"
Dead. We did our best, we tried our hardest. That's all you can expect out of KofC, but we'll be back! It's just us against the world (ZOMG 580,000 gamers!).

Pablito Neal:
The Hives - Tick Tick Boom!

"You know I’ve done it before
And I can do it some more
I’ve got my eye on the score
I’m gonna cut through the floor
It’s too late
It’s too soon
Or is it
Tick Tick Tick Tick Tick Tick Tick … Boom!!"
Dissection: The guitar riff and energy of the song gets me fired up to waste noob kids. The title is like a (death) grenade going off and the lyric directly before ('it's too late/it's too soon/or is it) is me wondering 'did I time my throw correctly to get the guy?'

The Daymonster:
Top Gun Theme Techno Remix

I can't really post the lyrics because there aren't any which I think is a good attribute of a theme song. When I hear the opening of the song I imagine all eight of the KofC walking over a hill in one of those slow motion moments in movies. And then when it speeds up, I see short fast clips of us wasting 13 year old nubs and humping their corpses. But that's just me.

I don't need to dissect my song and draw comparisons from each verse to Halo. All I know is that Top Gun represents the type of players we are; always pushing the limit, always testing the boundaries and ALWAYS coming out victoriously.

Led Zepplin - Immigrant Song

"Ah, ah,
We come from the land of the ice and snow,
From the midnight sun where the hot springs blow.
The hammer of the gods will drive our ships to new lands,
To fight the horde, singing and crying: Valhalla, I am coming!

On we sweep with threshing oar, Our only goal will be the western shore.

Ah, ah,
We come from the land of the ice and snow,
From the midnight sun where the hot springs blow.
How soft your fields so green, can whisper tales of gore,
Of how we calmed the tides of war. We are your overlords.

On we sweep with threshing oar, Our only goal will be the western shore.

So now you'd better stop and rebuild all your ruins, For peace and trust can win the day despite of all your losing. "

Dissection: "We come from the land of the ice and snow" is obviously a reference to everyone wanting to leave Snowbound. "The Hammer of the Gods" is a reference to much Halo lore. What comes to mind first is the Gravity Hammer obviously, but Foehammer crops up in Halo 1 campaign as the call sign of one of the pelican pilots.

The covenant is heavily religious and deems the arbiter as an instrument of the gods to do their holy work. "To fight the horde, singing and crying: Valhalla, I am coming" is clearly a reference to the epic battles that take place on Valhalla, with the horde referring to the opposing team.

"How soft your fields so green, can whisper tales of gore" alludes to how often in Halo there is unnerving silence, or beautiful in-game landscapes. The calm before the storm if you will. So much blood has been spilled, helping the fields of green grow.

"Of how we calmed the tides of war. We are your overlords." This is perhaps the most pivotal piece of the song in reference to Halo play since the KofC is constantly trying to calm the tides of war by defeating the other team and becoming their overlords.

"So now you'd better stop and rebuild all your ruins" The Halo series is built upon ancient forerunner ruins and the beauty of a world in chaos and destruction. After the destruction of the flood much rebuilding needs to be done for both human and covenant.

"For peace and trust can win the day despite of all your losing." Peace is what the KofC strives for in our endless amount of battles, and we use significant amounts of trust in our teammates on the battlefield. Watching Josey's back while he snipes, taking it for granted someone will kill the person you significantly damaged, exacting revenge for your fallen teammate, etc. All your losing just means we win a lot.

The long ahhhhhhh's at various points in the song are indicators of the countless number of foolish players that play as Elites and make a similar noise to the ahhhhh's as their elite dies. It is also what Josey and Tilla sound like when they furiously yell into their mics post-death.

Lastly the song is sweet, and has a certain feel to it conducive to good Halo play. The underlying drum beats gives a sense of calmness but not laziness, adding focus to your play instead of uncontrolled chaos.

Priestess - Lay Down

"Lay down, this pain will be long gone
With the absence of your breath
I know that you loved me
But I can't love you when you're dead
So I'll leave you in that coffin for God
And I'll leave you in the dirt
Lay down
Leave you'll be lonely
I know I won't go
Lay down
Sleep you'll be lonely
I know I won't go
Lay down before me
I know I won't go
It's not my turn."
[Editor's note: Tilla didn't give me any reason and from the lyrics it's not obvious to me. But I should point out, this song is on Guitar Hero III and its really fun to play.]

Squatting Bear:
Beerfest Theme Song - Wasted

"We all got wasted, drunk and wasted."

Dissection: While KofC is a Halo clan, we must not forget our storied history. Among us, we have several sub 5 minute booters, and one man who nearly broke 1 minute, which has been said to be harder to break than the 4 minute mile. I feel it is important that we recognize this important part of KofC's past through our theme song. Also, choosing the Beerfest anthem as our theme song will give all of us hope that one day we shall return to the glory days, where all we do is watch beerfest and drink copious amounts of booze all day. Many of us are in tough situations right now (Daymonster doesn't like his job, Josey is slaving away at law school, I am unemployed, etc.), and to put it simply, Beerfest Anthem is a song of hope. Hope that we all need to continue to get out of bed every day

Brad Paisley - Online

"I'm a scifi fanatic
A mild asthmatic
And I've never been to second base
But there's whole 'nother me
That you need to see
Go checkout MySpace
I'm out in Hollywood
I'm 6 foot 5 and I look damn good
Even on a slow day
I could have a three way
Chat with two women at one time
I'm so much cooler online
Yeah, I'm cooler online
I'm so much cooler online
Yeah, I'm cooler online
Yeah, I'm cooler online"

Dissection: We are cooler online.

Please hold votes til Unky explanation. Thank you.

Daymonster said...

don't post it. email it to me.

Pablito Neal said...

i sincerely doubt any further explanations will change my votes. i thought we'd agreed to vote as comments. i understand this may influence people who vote later but it's the most transparent way.

Josey WaIes said...

I will wait for your explanation Unky. I did not think it would matter, but Dammers was really good, I sort of fell like I should have written more. Good work Dammer, Unky I am looking foward to reading yours.

Side note, Squatting Bears choices is obviously really good. I am going to go as far as saying its so good that its a cop out, I mean come on, talk about angle shooting a fucking election, choosing the Beerfest theme song. I am glad someonoe posted it, but I would have liked to see some more thought, or any for that matter.

Dammer said...

This is tough....super tough. I will withold all votes and thought until Unky gives his explanation.

Josey WaIes said...

Daymonster, could we get a full version of Wasted, I will need to hear the full song to make a choice. Thank you.

Daymonster said...

sorry, i meant unky should email the explanation so i can post it with the song (and not mess up the code) not email me the votes.

sorry for the confusion

Daymonster said...

Also, I don't ahve the full version it tooke me an hour to even find that. If you have it email it to me and I'll change the song.

Pablito Neal said...

Dammer clearly has the most compelling arguments but as for as most fitting song, I can picture what Daymont's saying.

1st Choice: Top Gun Techno Remix
2nd Choice: Immigrant Song

Squatting Bear said...

Tom, post my comments. Also, huge lol at Unky's and Puyo's choices. I like the choices and am considering voting for them, but huge lol.

Dammer said...

I have the soundtrack, I can rip the song and send it to you Daymonster.

1st-Immigrant Song
2nd-Tick Tick Boom

Pablito Neal said...

Unky why the downer song? Ends with all of us dying??

Unky Warthog said...

In some ways, it is a downer. But in the end, we will all rise up and conquer.

Daymonster said...

like jesus?

Squatting Bear said...

this is seriously really hard to choose. I have only eliminated two songs from my choices for sure.

Daymonster said...

I know, I am slowly but surely narrowing it down. Everyone did a really good job picking theirs out, everyone deserves a pat on the back, esp Loco.

My decision will come tonight at 8pm CDT.

Priestess - Lay Down, Beerfest Theme Song - Wasted

My two votes

Pablito Neal said...

hmmmmm, just played priestess on guitar hero. won't change my vote but if we need a tie-breaking 3rd choice i got mine.

Daymonster said...

1. Immigrant Song
2. Beerfest

Toughest decision of my life.

Josey WaIes said...

My songs are not ranked, I was under the impression we did not have to rank them I see many people chose a 1 and 2.

Daymonster said...

it doesnt matter to me, i was under the same impression but everyone else ranked them....

Josey play halo right now please

Unky Warthog said...

I'm disappointed nobody enjoyed my song.

Josey WaIes said...

I think there are still a few votes unaccounted for Unky

locopuyo said...

You didn't even come close to spelling my name correctly and I hate country.

My song would be Confrontation by Clawfinger or Don't Make Us Kick Your Ass by Futuristic Sex Robotz.

But out of the songs listed Immigrant Song blows the rest away.

Josey WaIes said...

WOW, so it looks like The Daymonster betrayed another clan member (loco) WOW, I am not happy with this betray. Let me be the frist to say Daymont shold be punished for this activity!!

Not only did he stab loco in the back he altered the outcome of the important clan theme song election.

This shit can not stand, I am pissed!

Dammer said...

Well now that Locopollo has conveyed his song choices the vote can commence as planned. An itchy blog posting finger is a dangerous thing. Barring Puyo's songs drastically changing my mind I have my final two top songs. This was one of the toughest choices I've had to make (I liken it to yesterday when I had to decide whether to wake up and eat breakfast before work or sleep an extra half hour and go ten minutes late...I chose to get a gas station egg sandwhich on the way and be 15 minutes late). Unky's song was oh so tempting but....I hate rap and I just can't chose the song based on reasoning alone (props to the effort though Unky). Daymonster's song was a really close one, but about twenty seconds in I wanted to hear the non-remixed version instead. So without further ado my choices are:

Lay Down (I think I would play Halo very well listening to that song, especially when I tell every person I kill to lay the fuck down...that and I really enjoy playing it in Guitar Hero).

Wasted (When I hear this song I immediately think of kegger weekend/GAC detox, and KofC members played huge parts in that).

Squatting Bear said...

at 7 a.m. i have finally reached my decision. While it appears my vote will be in vain, i still must vote my conscience. good choices everybody.

top gun them song
me against the world

Pablito Neal said...

SB, 7 am? are you up early or late?

we're waiting on Tilla...

Daymonster said...

Daymonster Update:

SB's Wasted song is the full song now.

As for the Loco betray. To be fair everyone had plenty of time to get their song in. And I think we all knew that Online was a joke. Also, not to bring Dammer into it but it was him who suggested it (sorry dammer) I have google chat records to prove it.

Loco, I would love for you to have a song choice. please email me the mp3 of ONE of the songs and I'll add it.

Other than that. Stop complaining Josey.

Daymonster said...

Loco we need a second choice.

locopuyo said...

My second choice is my song, I don't have your email so I can't send it.

Daymonster said...

god dammit... you can't vote for your own song... I am beginning to question your KofC loyalty.

Anyway. it's past midnight, unless Tilla has a damn good reason for missing the deadline, looks like we might have a winner.

Josey WaIes said...

I want to vote for my song, wtf, come on!

Also Tilla, vote, just do if quick like riping off a bandaid you will not even feel it.
